Climate Adaptation
Introducing the Climate Resilient Communities Program
ICLEI’s Climate Resilient Communities™ program enables local governments to protect their people, property, and resources from climate change. The program is built upon the highly successful Five Milestone Methodology established by ICLEI, which guides local governments through steps to enhance their resiliency to a changing climate. More specifically, the program will help them assess vulnerabilities, establish targets and goals, and plan and take actions.

Program Goals
The Climate Resilient Communities Program will accomplish the following:
- Develop a robust peer network of local governments actively implementing resiliency measures
- Increase the ability of local governments to assess their vulnerability to future changes in the climate by linking them directly to the most current climate science on future regional impacts
- Facilitate prioritized and informed decision making based on the most up-to-date climate science
- Drive the integration of climate mitigation and adaptation planning
- Train local government staff and leaders on adaptation planning tactics
- Enable peer-to-peer learning among communities and foster citizen engagement
- Engage the public in supporting and advancing their community’s resiliency
