Los Angeles, CA, Mayor Emphasizes Limiting Reliance on Coal

The mayor emphasized his belief that the city can thrive using sustainable energy and becoming a business center for so-called green technologies.
The mayor said a city-owned windmill farm will begin delivering energy this month and the city will obtain a fifth of its energy from renewable sources by next year. He said he would direct the Department of Water and Power to work on eliminating its reliance on coal—which provides 40 percent of the city's power—by 2020.
