What Local Governments Will Receive
The primary outcome of this year-long project is to aid jurisdictions in the development and implementation of energy efficiency policies and programs (based on ICLEI & IMT’s Commercial Energy Policy Toolkit) that result in demonstrable energy reductions, consumer energy cost savings and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
Local governments will choose one or more programs and policies to develop that are most appropriate to their community and their goals, including: audits and retro-commissioning, energy code compliance, energy rating and disclosure, green business recognition programs, and green leasing.
ICLEI and IMT will support jurisdictions through the step-by-step process of program scoping, evaluation, design, and stakeholder involvement, while building the capacity of local governments at a time when resources for projects are scarce. The goal is to implement a policy or program in 2012.
Meeting Local Governments' Needs
Building on member’s response to the Commercial Energy Policy Toolkit, ICLEI & IMT are excited to announce a unique opportunity to support local governments in the development and implementation of policies and programs in their respective commercial sectors.
Many local jurisdictions have already identified energy efficiency strategies for existing commercial buildings in climate action plans and other sustainability planning documents. The resources and guidance provided by IMT and ICLEI will help jurisdictions enact these strategies to meet local efficiency goals. Effective implementation of these strategies will achieve significant energy and cost savings and greenhouse gas reductions within the private and local government sectors.
Selection Criteria
The application is open to all ICLEI USA member local governments. Preference may be given to jurisdictions located within the Southeast, Southwest, or Midwest areas of the country, though all ICLEI USA members are encouraged to apply.
