Konrad Otto-Zimmerman on ICLEI's Impact at Rio+20

by Don Knapp

Dear ICLEI Members,

We are proud to report that recent events have seen ICLEI being elevated on the basis of its longstanding leadership in global advocacy, developing solutions, accelerating action, spurring change and paving pathways to sustainability.

At Rio+20, we brought together the largest gathering in urban sustainability at the Global Town Hall – a week-long event which welcomed 5000 delegates, many coming from the government and business sectors and 100 speakers led by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.  We also successfully held our World Congress 2012 in Belo Horizonte where more than 1600 attendees, including 900 local government representatives, about 100 businesses and approximately 200 organizations came and committed to the powerful actions outlined in our Message to Rio.  I invite you to watch this video and read further on how we are continuing to drive the sustainable cities agenda before, during and post-Rio+20.

Best regards,
Konrad Otto-Zimmermann
ICLEI Secretary General, Bonn, Germany
