New York Plants 33,500 Trees for MillionTreesNYC Initiative

Between 2007 and 2008, City of New York planted 33,501 trees as part
of our MillionTreesNYC campaign, of which 11,548 are newly planted
street trees. MillionTreesNYC is a citywide, public-private initiative
launched in 2007 in partnership with the New York Restoration Project
(NYRP). MillionTreesNYC’s goal is to plant and care for one million new
trees in the City over the next decade. These include street trees, park
trees, and trees on public, private and commercial land. Planners
recognize that through this program, the City can enlarge its urban
forest by 20 percent. Many of the tree plantings are in areas of the
City with low tree cover and above-average asthma rates.The Achievements
