The blog follows cities, towns, and counties that are reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing energy consumption, utilizing renewable energy sources, adapting to climate change, and developing more sustainably. It showcases their challenges, accomplishments, and lessons learned, and spotlights the voices of people on the front lines of this movement: from mayors to city planners to sustainability coordinators.

The Local Action Blog’s goal is to make all local governments aware of these actions and opportunities, as well as members of the media and the larger environmental community.

All of the leaders in local climate and sustainability are part of a membership network of nearly 600 local governments, called ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA—from New York, San Francisco, and Chicago to Keene, NH, and Fayetteville, AR. For more than a decade, ICLEI USA members have lead the way, even in the absence of federal leadership. To support their goals, ICLEI has provided them with the necessary tools, resources, and guidance. ICLEI staff author the blog posts to highlight the work of members, and share ICLEI’s own expertise.
