The Tools Behind the Innovation

Behind every innovative measure and bold policy initiative on local climate action and sustainability is a tool. A software tool, a planning tool, a comparative tool, an online tool, a performance tool, a training tool.

At ICLEI we specialize in developing and distributing the tools that will empower local governments to achieve their climate and sustainability goals. We are continuously upgrading and adding to our suite of tools and complement that with training sessions and technical assistance.

  • Density-VMT Calculator:The ICLEI Density-VMT Calculator is an Excel-based tool that was created by ICLEI to enable city planners, developers, and others to compare the environmental impacts of residential developments of varying densities.

Tools from outside of ICLEI

  • Energy Star Resources – The EPA’s building efficiency software Portfolio
    Manager can help you track and reduce building energy use.  Using Energy
    Star and ICLEI programs in conjunction can enhance your climate protection
    work in each of ICLEI’s 5 Milestones.
