ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability is pleased to offer training resources to help local government staff and individuals learn how to effectively use CAPPA to reach their goals.

Recorded CAPPA training courses are available free to ICLEI member local government staff. Nonmember local government staff and other individuals may receive recorded materials for a fee, with the exception of the Introduction and Overview training that is freely available. Users may purchase access to both recorded trainings for the combined price of $50.

CAPPA Introduction and Overview Training

This recorded training covers the basics of the tool, including an introduction to CAPPA's capabilities and its intended use in ICLEI’s Five Milestones for Climate Mitigation Process. Participants will view demo of the tool and how to use the components, and learn how to understand CAPPA outputs. This training will provide CAPPA users with enough information to begin using the tool.

CAPPA Calculators and Customization Training

This recorded training provides a deeper understanding of how CAPPA's individual calculators function. This includes background on the basis of the many different types of measures that CAPPA covers, and how CAPPA calculates emissions reductions from each type. You canl also learn about the customization options that are available for each type of calculator and how and when to use them. The training also shows how to create custom "User Defined" calculators from scratch for the unique projects that may be under way in your community. The training ends with time-saving tips as well as a Q&A session. The training, however, does not cover basic CAPPA functionality, such as entering data.  CAPPA Decision Support Training

This recorded training will explain how CAPPA selects measures to include in a draft climate action plan, and how to interpret results. CAPPA users will receive a step-by-step walk-through of the “Create an Emissions Reduction Plan” feature of CAPPA. This training also helps users understand how to spot CAPPA-selected measures that may not make sense for their plan -- and what to do about it. This is followed by instruction on the overall interpretation of the results and recommended best practices for obtaining the best results. Finally, the training offers tips on using CAPPA for scenario planning. The training, however, will not cover basic CAPPA functionality, such as entering data.
