Energy Codes and Climate Protection
30% Solution 2012 achieved! Congratulations to the several hundred local government delegates and code officials who over the course of a week contributed to a significantly more efficient future for anyone who lives, works or operates buildings in this nation.
ICLEI was honored to be able to support 105 local government voting delegates from more than 30 communities to travel to Charlotte, NC, for the 2010 Final Action Hearings. Together with colleagues from the national, regional state and local level, they successfully championed energy efficiency by voting for the individual measures that added up to create the 30 Percent Solution 2012, making the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code on average 30 percent more efficient than the 2006 version.
30% Solution Highlights
- The most significant gain in energy efficiency by the model energy code in two decades, making the residential code more the 30% more efficient than the 2006 version.
- Participation of nearly three times more local and state officials in the voting process than in 2007.
- The creating of a single model energy code referenced by the International Building Code and International Residential Code (rather than two).
- Higher standards for duct sealing and building envelope tightness
- More efficient lighting, better hot water pipe insulation, and more!
“Thanks, again, for the wonderful opportunity to participate in the ICC hearings. I feel so victorious! I voted more times in those four days than I have in the nearly eight years of being in office.” --Mayor Heidi Davison, Athens-Clarke County, GA
