Theresa Krebs
Program Officer
Program Officer - Oakland, CA
Theresa’s focus as a Program Officer in ICLEI’s Oakland office is technology and the development of new software tools, along with other efforts as diverse as country and regional protocols, quantifying the impact of policy measures, and providing exceptional member support services. She is responsible for the software development behind the Climate and Air Pollution Planning Assistant (CAPPA), and is also responsible for bringing the CACP software application in line with ICLEI’s new Local Government Operations Protocol. Theresa intends to contribute to ICLEI’s technology planning process, for example by understanding what Web 2.0 means for ICLEI as an organization moving forward, and how to implement that vision.
Prior to joining ICLEI, Theresa served the insurance industry as a risk modeler with Newark, California software company Risk Management Solutions, Inc. There, she served as the technical lead in the development of a Caribbean storm surge model, and made creative yet
rigorous contributions to the modeling of tornadoes, high winds, and hail in North America. She has a strong background in the quantitative aspects of community adaptation and resilience, and will be playing a role in ICLEI’s future thought leadership in the area.
Theresa’s degrees are in geology and geophysics, as well as the atmospheric sciences, at Yale and Colorado State Universities, respectively. She once worked as a summer park ranger at Grand Canyon National Park, volunteered in a Native Athabascan community outside
Fairbanks, Alaska as a teenager, and raced solar cars for Yale in Sunrayce ’97, on a team that placed 10th out of 40 teams. In her personal time, Theresa is a concert flutist and has recently been visioning a local, community-based sustainability movement based on inter-generational awareness and values.
