As Membership Officer, Meleah Houseknecht’s primary responsibility is ensuring that ICLEI USA members have access to the people and services that will best support their efforts to progress through the 5-milestone process and achieve local sustainability. She also works closely with the Communications and Program teams to continue to build and strengthen the ICLEI network of local governments.

Meleah has been working for and with local governments on issues of sustainability for most of the last seven years. She has worked on projects that include coordination of the first National Conversation on Climate Action, an analysis of and recommendations for a sustainable waste management system on the Big Island of Hawaii, research into collaborative greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects undertaken by institutions of higher education and local governments, advocacy for more health-protective chemicals policies at the state and local level, and outreach to greenspace groups in New York City. Meleah received her Masters degree in Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and her Bachelors in Environmental Studies from Vassar College.
