Climate Program Director, San Diego, CA
As Director of Climate Programs, Brian Holland oversees the development of ICLEI's climate mitigation, climate adaptation, and energy efficiency programs and partnerships. Brian's work at ICLEI has addressed a broad spectrum of climate concerns, including emissions management, transportation strategies, carbon markets, sea level rise adaptation, and business engagement. He serves as ICLEI's manager for the Resilient Communities for America campaign (www.resilientamerica.org), rallying the leadership of hundreds of local officials creating stronger and more prepared communities.
Brian has an extensive background in city planning and climate policy. Prior to joining ICLEI, he worked in land use and transportation with the San Diego metropolitan planning organization, contributing to the development of the California’s first SB 375 Sustainable Communities Strategy. Brian also prepared land use and environmental planning documents in the private sector, and he entered the sustainability field at Southface Energy Institute, an Atlanta non-profit, where he developed a certification standard for green master-planned development projects. Brian’s work has been recognized by the American Planning Association, the Association of Environmental Professionals, and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
