Brian Holland

Climate Program Director, San Diego, CA

As Climate Program Director, Brian Holland leads the development of ICLEI's climate mitigation and climate adaptation programs and consulting projects, and is responsible for building partnerships to advance the creation of new ICLEI resources.  Prior to serving as Climate Director, Brian's applied work at ICLEI addressed a broad spectrum of climate concerns, including emissions inventories, climate action planning, transportation strategies, carbon markets, and sea level rise adaptation.  He also directly assisted ICLEI members in reaching their climate and sustainability goals as a member of the ICLEI California Regional Office.

Brian has an extensive background in city planning and climate policy.  Prior to joining ICLEI, he worked in land use and transportation with the San Diego metropolitan planning organization, contributing to the development of the California’s first SB 375 Sustainable Communities Strategy.  Brian also prepared comprehensive and environmental planning documents in the private sector, and he entered the sustainability field at Southface Energy Institute, an Atlanta non-profit organization, where he developed a certification standard for green master-planned development projects. Brian’s work has been recognized by the American Planning Association, the Association of Environmental Professionals, and the American Society of Landscape Architects.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and is a legacy LEED Accredited Professional.
