Rio+20 Updates for Local Governments
by Don KnappOn June 20-22, a global conversation on sustainability challenges will take place at the United Nations' Rio+20 Summit, with the overarching theme of "The Future We Want."
In addition to the national government representatives, local government leaders will attend, led by ICLEI, which will work to amplify their voices and ensure that local perspectives are heard, especially regarding the green economy.

Rio+20 Global Town Hall
ICLEI's main event at Rio+20 will be the Rio+20 Global Town Hall. It will be set in a venue close to the official Rio+20 proceedings and take place in parallel to the conference. The Rio+20 Global Town Hall will be an inviting and open setting where local leaders, the conference delegates, international organizations, and business can meet up and discuss the urban future. Read on for more details, and updates on the programs.
Rio+20 Policy Update
Negotiations towards Rio+20 are ongoing, but there is no consensus yet on the most important issues. What Rio+20 will achieve will only be known when the Summit ends on 22 June 2012. A hopeful sign is that over 130 Heads of State and Governments have confirmed their intention to attend, which will make Rio+20 the largest Summit in UN history.
Online Sustainable Development Dialogues
The top recommendations from the online platform will be discussed live at 10 thematic sessions from 16-19 June 2012 at the venue of Rio+20 itself. One of the dialogues will be on sustainable cities and innovation.
